yaifm-rollo

The IKEA Fridans has no motor connection: this project retrofits it with an ESP32 and a motor. Position detection without endstop via stall detection, position storage in NVS, clean cover integration in Home Assistant.

Working in daily use: documented including wiring and ESPHome config.

Was es macht

No endstop needed: stall detection learns the limits
Position storage in NVS: survives power outages
Home-Assistant-Cover-Integration (Position, Stop, Tilt)
ESPHome-Konfiguration, einfach anpassbar

Offline-first: fully functional without internet, only vetted data is fetched when online

FAQ

The IKEA Fridans venetian blind. The mechanics are designed for this model specifically.

Basics are enough, the wiring is documented step by step in the repository.

Stall detection calibrates the limits itself, NVS storage keeps the position through power outages.

Warum yaifm-rollo?

For the IKEA Fridans there is the ready-made path and the DIY path: here is the honest comparison.

Gegen IKEA Fyrtur / Tredansen

Stark: buy ready-made, pair, done. As long as the gateway cooperates.

Der Nachteil: everything runs through the IKEA Zigbee chain, position feedback is rudimentary, and if you want control without a cloud bridge you will soon build it yourself.

yaifm-rollo: ESP32 right on the blind, Home Assistant cover integration without a bridge, NVS position storage survives power loss, stall detection instead of installing an endstop.

Gegen fertige ESPHome-Rollo-Module

Stark: many build plans online.

Der Nachteil: most require endstop switches or store the position only in RAM: after a power outage the blind moves blindly.

yaifm-rollo: Stall detection instead of an endstop, position secured in NVS, complete parts list and build docs in the repository, reproducible without guesswork.
